Arts Integration

Well designed external environments are accessible.

I have a particular interest in accessible and inclusive design of the external environment, and

  • have gained a Post Graduate Diploma in Inclusive Environments from Reading University.
  • am an Access Consultant, registered with the National Register of Access Consultants (NRAC).

The integration of art significantly enhances the external environment.

As part of the regeneration of Boscombe Pier Approach landscape works, whilst I was working for Bournemouth Borough Council, a landmark sculpture was created by Simon Hitchens. 'From dawn until dusk' was completed in 2008.

Avon Ring Road Stage 2 works included incorporation of a massive Earth sculpture designed by Lorna Green. 'The chain and the wheel' was constructed between 1994 and 2008. Landscape design works included the incorporation of ramp and steps to enable public to enjoy the views from the crest, as well as planting and hard surfacing design.
